welcome to the hobby,
pete’s hamtrain course has a very high pass rate for the foundation exam
the exam is just the start of your journey, there is a rabbit warren of paths your new hobby can lead you to, VHF/ UHF handhelds is the cheapest and simplest route in, but unless you are near a very active repeater VHF / UHF can be very quiet
personally i like HF as its much busier and more options for modes etc (and contesting if thats your bag), cheapest new commercial radio are the Xiegu G90’s at <£500 to get you on the air with a transciever, computer interface & cooling stand for a 20w all mode 160m-10m setup + the cost of an antenna
then you also have satellites with a handheld radio and handheld 2m/70cm antenna
add to that a load of digital modes that need a computer linked to the radio
plenty to keep you interested in,
then you have the low power beacon modes like WSPR / QRSS which use less than a watt to get world wide
so once you get your license then the fun begins as you explore the option
