        Hi from Scotland,

I have my radio license, obtained some years ago but never had time to participate and develop my interest further, I am hoping to start doing that now.

        Thanks for inviting me in.

I will have questions, hope you don’t minnd and can help me out.

        Bestest to you all,

        Rorymax

          welcome RoryMax

          any questions just ask

i suspect things have changed a lot since you originally got your license,

there are a lot of digital modes utilising a connection between a radio and a PC/Laptop (especially on HF bands)

there are a lot of cheap HF transceiver kits from the likes of QRP-Labs if you fancy the challenge of wielding a soldering iron, their QCX model is great if you are into CW, or the QDX/QMX for digital modes (RTTY, PSK31, FT*, Olivia etc) with a PC

there is also the digital voice modes (DMR, C4FM, D-Star) but you either need to be near a repeater/gateway or use one of the hotspots as a gateway (the path is RF <> Your hotspot <> your internet <> internet <> remote gateway <> RF <> Remote station)

and more satellites which you can access with a handheld and basic home made tape measure yagi’s

enjoy getting back into the hobby, there is now a lot more you can do than shout into a mic or tap away with a morse key
