I am new to this site and im still setting everything up. I have installed a 10m end-fed antenna going from my radio room (at the top of my house) and across my garden and attached to my garage. As yet, I do not have it earthed, but I thought I would still receive something, but it was completely dead, do I need the earth just to receive?

          Hi Kingfisher

for receive you don’t need an earth, are you using a Balun / impedance transformer on the endfed?

you either have a short to ground, dodgy solder joint or dogdy plug/socket

when you say 10M end fed, is that 10m long or tuned for 10m/28mhz band?

          what radio are you using?
what bands are you trying to listen to
currently due to time of year and band conditions daytime HF is active up to 10m/28mhz from late morning to sunset, then overnight the MUF (max usable freq) is between 40m/7mhz – 30m/10mhz
