Hi there,
After spending many years as a youngster watching my father with his radios I wish I had asked more and gotten involved sooner. Sadly it’s too late to ask him now and so I am turning to the internet for advice!
I have at last (at 44years old) decided to get involved, and so last year I bought a UV-5R to get started!I am now looking to buy a new radio and have two in mind and I would like to know which is the better model and what their key differences are. I am hoping someone here might be able to point me in the right direction..
I am torn between the BF-F8HP Pro and the Baofeng 5RM (2023).
While I appreciate that Baofeng are not to everyone’s taste as mentioned I am very new and just starting out so I’m trying to not go overboard.
I someone could let me know which I should go for I’d really appreciate it!

after having a quick look around, to be honest i don’t think either of them are massively better than the UV-5R you currently have
a good external antenna would give you much better performance gain than either of the 2 options
i assume you have passed foundation or studying for it?
long term what are your goals for radio? local nets? HF? satellites? contesting?
the other options are digital voice (DMR / C4FM / DStar)? or even EchoLink which is worldwide over the internet
the biggest thing is whether you have the ability or area to put an external antenna up?
